SELF GEN PROJECT PRT 21

I continued with experimenting with moving image. I wanted to try a more busy composition. Each building reminds me of a small memory I have (Like losing a phone or falling over) that took place around that building.

I did change the colour because I wanted to see the outcome of doing that and would it become messy?

I really like the outcome of this and in the future I want to try video and moving image.

SELF GEN PROJECT PRT 17

I wasn’t quite sure how to develop my project further with the ‘blue-print’. So, I decided to look back and play around more with photoshop. I added more detail into these pieces compared to my previous photoshop artworks. I wanted to experiment with perspective, especially with the shapes surrounding the building to see if they then change the perspective of the whole piece.

For the first artwork, I was inspired with the colour theme I saw on a random old poster in Leith. I decided to also add a rectangle to which I them edited to made the shape have perspective. I thought the shapes and the colours themselves contrast against the glass building. Without the stripes, I felt the piece was dull and empty. By adding the shapes, it gives the artwork more depth and detail.

I enjoyed using the stripes and choose to continuing with experimenting with that aspect. I originally was just going have the shape and the building itself, but not only was it a boring composition, but also the colours in the piece contrasted, but in a bad way that made the piece look flat. By adding the white stripes it balancing the two apposite colours and bring depth. Also allowing the building to stand out.

Out of all three, this piece would have to be the most similar to my previous pieces. I wanted to look more to cutting the building in small pieces and they overlapping them. I thought it represent the feeling of buildings upon buildings feel that most people experience when living in a city.

SELF GEN PROJECT PRT5

Following from my previous post, I started experimenting with creating a rough texture. I started off with selecting colours that match the colour range of Edinburgh. I layered paint and then used Lino print of lines ontop with yellow. Originally I wanted the yellow lines to stand out, but they ended up patchy and faded-is. However, I really like the outcome as it has added depth and texture to the piece.

I also created a smaller Lino print of the apartments in Edinburgh, which you can spot near the castle. I really liked the effect and want to created a more larger and more detailed print, but this print was good experimenting.

I really feel the Lino print of the apartments add to the texture. I plan on going out and photographing my city. I would like to do some collage work.

SELF GEN PROJECT PRT4

With this project, a part of me is slightly out of my comfort zone. I’ve never really painted and drawn buildings before, I’ve always been interested but never something I have been able to try until now. I love the way Serj Fedulov paints and reminds me of Impressionism. I do plan on looking further into Impressionism as I would like to try painting in that technique.

I started off with focusing on the which strokes of paint that you see in his work. I did a small sketch of Edinburgh castle, using a handwriting pen and then used Gouache to create texture. I don’t like them, as I feel they are messy and a bit all over the place. However it did help in what I want to develop more. I really creating the texture and using the paint. I would like to look more into creating a rough, stone texture with paint and layering.

WAWWA:DEVELOPMENT PRT.11

I continued with the red theme, but I wanted to play about with the theme of royalty, and comparing that to the virus and the restrictions put in place.

I photoshopped a painting of a cell I did in a previous painting and played it on top of the Royal Crest. I wanted portray that the virus is above and is becoming a ‘higher being’. And with the restrictions, we have to do what it says. In a way we’re worshipping it, obeying it in a way.

I added stressed faces of myself, to representing the angry and manic feeling I had during quarantine. I still wanted to represent the graphs in this piece as well, so I added the counting in numbers between march 2020 and December 2020.

When thinking about royalty and covid and its restrictions, I realised they all have something in common. They all have slogans. I then went on to replace the royal slogan: “Dieu et mon droit” with the covid safety slogan: “Hands.Face.Space”. I wanted to show that the virus is becoming powerful in controlling how we live, and is becoming a modern god.

I continued to have the red circle as, with its placement it looks like in over taking. I really like this piece, and I’m looking forward to developing it further.

WAWWA: DEVELOPMENT PRT.7

Today, I carried on making prints with the Lino cut I did previously. I experimented with them by layering over one another with different colours. I then went one to photoshop them and overlaying them once again and enhancing the saturation on them to give them a x-ray type look to them. I did this because I feel it looks like those science like animations you see on the television when they’re talking about cells and anatomy.

I really enjoy making these and found the outcome to be successful. I also decided to crop certain parts of the artwork to focus on the patterns and colour contrasts. However, due to file sizing and the original size of the images, the outcome photos are particularly small. In the future I plan to check my photo sizing and learn how I can fix it for next upcoming pieces.

WAWWA:DEVELOPMENT PRT.6

I started to paint a piece where there’s a detailed cell in the centre, however it wasn’t going well, it just wasn’t turning out the way a expected, and I was struggling with the colours. So, I decided to put them into photoshop and change the colours into that.

I then went on to use photoshop as a way to collage my previous work together. For the first collage piece, I wanted to show a representation of how the virus can seem to be everywhere, and I put the Lino print of the ‘air sac’ over the body as I way to make it clearer. I really like the contrast in this piece and the dreamy feel it has.

I then used the painting I did, and photoshopped it into the background of a photo I took of myself. This was to show that the virus felt it was always looming about us, even when you’re in you own bed, its hard now a days to not be thinking about it, even when you close your eyes.

The last photoshop I didn’t like as much. This piece was more a experimentation, where I just wanted to if the composition would be effective, I feel it is effective to an extent, but next time I would either more colour or change the position.

WAWWA: DEVELOPMENT PRT.4

I took photographs of my myself in a curls up positions with my back facing the camera. I wanted to portray a tired, scared and fragile vibe. I then went on to change it to black and white and photoshop my prints that I did earlier into it.

This was completely experimental as I have never really done photoshop, but I really enjoyed using. I tried different colours and really pixel the last picture as it reminded me of little cells, which I felt fitted perfectly with the current theme I am focusing on.

I have more picture I would like to photoshop and experiment more with. In the future I want to add more to artwork as I feel this art piece is a little plain.

WAWWA: DEVELOPMENT PRT.3

I decided to experiment with Lino print. I started off with creating designs that represent the lung and the air sacs that are located within the lungs. I decided to focus on lungs and breathing as that is where the virus effects the human body first.

At first I used green ink, as that is the only colour that I have, however I then went on to experimenting with acrylic paint as I can get more variety of colours. I really enjoyed printing and working with vibrant colours.

With some of the left over paint, I decided to attempt mono print. I wrote the words ‘covid’ and ‘breathe’. I feel this was successful as I would like to experiment with these prints on photoshop.

WAWWA: DEVELOPMENT PRT.1

I’ve been mainly focusing on doing contextual research and then responding to the new information through developing and experimenting.

With research about the virus’s cells and the how the human body fights the virus with antibodies and protein cells, I decided to draw a visualisation of the cells ‘fighting’. I used the colours that the majority of science articles use when describing which cell us which. The red is the virus and the blue is the antibodies. I was struggling when making due to not feeling any ideas are motivation.

I then started trying photoshop, and really enjoyed using it! I don’t have much experience using photoshop, so I experimented with my theme and just getting use to photoshop. I do like what I created, and feel this could be a path of potential development.

The last response I have done was just an idea I got when researching, with the thought of the cells moving in the body. I wanted to try and visualise that movement.

I want to know focus on the actual human body, especially the chest and throat area as that is where the virus first affects.
