RESOLVED PIECES

Our next task for this project is to create a minimum of four resolved pieces, inspired from the 2D and 3D pieces done in the previous task. I really enjoyed doing this task, and I feel this has helped in getting use to creating, and painting again!

The main materials I decided to use was black ink, pencil and a black brush pen, as w weren’t allowed to use colours. Only being able to use black was a change for me, as I usually work with colours, however I really enjoyed working with black and find really effective.

One the first resolved piece, I took inspiration from Daniel Zeller, and from one of the first 2D piece I did. I like the curved lines and the use of linear that I did in the 2D piece, and wanted ti see if I could incorporate the shapes of Zeller. I do like the piece, and the movement that is created by the curves and the contrast of the straight line, however I feel it has a more Bridget Riley feel to it, then Daniel Zeller inspired, probably from only using black ink.

For the second piece, I took my inspiration from the 3D piece I did earlier. I wanted to focus on the contrast of black and white, and by using shapes. This is my favourite piece out of the four. I originally wasn’t going to have a gradient, however I’m glad I choose to do so, as it make the white shapes, really stand out and makes the black more effective.

The third piece is my least favourite. I really struggled on this piece. I originally wanted it to be solely rectangles and squares overlapping, like the piece that inspired it. However I felt there was something missing, as the piece seemed bland and boring. Instead of leaving the piece and then coming back to it, I just kept adding, and decided to add the curved patterns that I did in the first resolved piece. I feel the shapes and patterns don’t work, its too busy and the placement is all wrong. Maybe if I placed the survey pattern in the middle, with the more black shapes in the background it could of been more successful. However, I am glad I did it, as it reminded me to take your time and if something isn’t working, leave it and then go back to it.

For the fourth piece, I wanted to focus on the smaller shapes created when overlapping multiple shapes. I really like this piece, and I feel I was successful in showing the shapes. I do question my decision on adding lines in the circles, as I feel it is a bit busy, but I do like the effect it gives. For this piece I let the shapes blend into the background, as I wanted to see the effect it would have on the overall contrast on colours. I do like the effect it has, but I feel though, I would of had more of a sharper contrast, as that was my main focus.

DEVELOPMENT TASK TWO PRT3.

With the continuation of producing a mix of 3D and 2D pieces. I really enjoyed making and experimenting with these pieces and are really happy with the results.

I mainly worked with ink, masking tape, brush pen and pencils. With my environment being my bedroom, and my bedroom consisting of squares and circlers, I decided that to be my main objected, when facing on what to create.

I experimented by overlapping certain shapes, cutting out certain shapes using a crafting knife or scissors. When experimenting I particually liked the contrast of curves and lines and block colours.

DEVELOPMENT TASK TWO PRT.2

Carrying on from the previous task, I created I small installation, using the limited materials in my environment to create the 2D artwork I did in the last task. I enjoyed creating the piece, and experimenting with using different materials then usual, however I feel the actual outcome was unsuccessful.

I tried to create the linear shapes seen in the drawing by using wires, and hanging them on a clothes hook. And for the more sharper straighter lines, I decided to use kitchen utensils,

I do however, really like the drawing and shapes in the drawing taken from the newest installation piece. I more focused on the shapes of the shadows instead of the actual objects.

DEVELOPMENT TASK TWO

For this task we need to create a small three dimensional piece and from the shapes and shadowing it creates, create a two dimensional piece inspired from it.

I really enjoyed this task and loved manipulating the shadows. I decided to recreate the three dimensional in a linear, simplistic style, incorporating the shadows into the drawing. I felt this piece was successful, and I like the two dimensional outcome.

ENVIROMENTAL DRAWING

For this project, we had to draw art pieces based of our environment. The environment that I chose was my room. I wanted to try and recreate the feeling of being in a room, so I got the imprint of the texture if my walls and cut four individual squares and then collaged them onto a large piece, which also has the texture of the walls. I chose four as most rooms have four walls. I enjoyed creating this piece and I feel the outcome was successful.

For my next piece, I noticed that most of my furniture was either square or circular. I decided to do a abstract sort of piece. I originally wasn’t going to colour the shapes, but I felt it looked boring. I’m glad I did colour certain shapes as it does give off a nice effect.

The last artwork is a recreation or I have attempted to portray by bed covers. During the past months I have stayed the majority in bed, so I sketched out the shapes of my ned covers, and then shaded to add depth, but I felt it was too boring. So, I folded the paper in various ways, which I feel helped the piece in bing more effective.

DRAWING FOR DRAWING’S SAKE

With the observational drawing we did in the last project, we had to create observational drawing from those drawings, through experimenting with using market making, compositions, scale and shapes. I wanted to focus on the textures, and se if I can recreate the feel or portray what the object in the installations felt like.

The installation with the vase and straw chair, I wanted to recreate the texture of the chair, so I sketched out the vase and got a imprint of the chair’s texture, I then decided to go over the vase sketch with a pen as I felt it would get lost with the harsh tones created by the chair. I really like this piece, and I succeeded in recreating that texture.

I again wanted to recreate the texture of the porcelain object, so I decided to smudge and use that to create some sort of depth to the face. Its been awhile since drawing any form of faces and I did enjoy drawing this piece, however I feel it wasn’t as successful as I wanted it to be. I feel the piece is boring and still feels very 2D.

The rest of the drawings, I experimented with masking tape, black pen and using a rubber. I did enjoy this task and its encouraged me to experiment more with texture and composition and also how to create texture with a limited amount of materials. I feel the piece with the rubbed out loose lines, with the black lining as well, would have to be my favourite, as I feel with the contrast of tones, its really effective.

SEE YOU, SEE ME

For this project, we had to photograph our own home installations that represent our current environment that surrounds us. We then upload our installations and create observational drawings from other colleagues’ installations.

I really enjoyed this task, and got use to sketching and warming up the creative mind. For my observational pieces, I decided to combine different installations into one piece. I feel it gave certain pieces a surrealistic style. We had to only use monochromatic materials, so I only use mainly pencil and black ink pen. I experimented by using my left hand on certain pieces, not looking at the page and continues line. I also decided to combine two techniques into one pice, so I might use my left hand drawing one object and drawing in more detail with the other object.

Im really happy with outcome of my pieces, and looking forward to getting into the habit on sketching and experimenting again!
